In this episode of the LIVE project podcast, we interview Giangi, who has been a volunteer in the Civil Service program and has also participated in several Erasmus+ projects.
Giangi’s journey into civil service and Erasmus projects began when he met some members of the TDM2000 Association at an event. Soon, he started to get involved in some activities proposed by the association, and immediately, he got attracted by the idea of travelling and working with youngsters.
Finally, he became part of the association by participating in the Civil Service, where he was involved in translations, graphic design work and Erasmus projects. For him this experience was very rewarding, as Giangi is a person who enjoys “helping others and feeling useful”. He got the chance to meet and inspire a lot of youngsters who wanted to try different things and embrace changes.
Why he recommends trying out these programs?
Besides being part of the Civil Service, Giangi has also participated in several Erasmus+ projects, long-term volunteering and short-term volunteering. That is why he strongly recommends to volunteer. According to him, it is a very useful way of acquiring new skills. For example, he admits that he used to be a very shy person, but thanks to the various volunteering experiences he had, he was able to improve his public speaking skills and gained more confidence as a result. Besides, he compares volunteering with the concept of “altruistic egoism”, which is about winning by helping others. This means that “if the other people gain more and you also gain more, whenever you look around, you’re actually surrounded by wealth”
